Festival Guallando « No Seremos Silenciados »

On Friday September 26th, The “Guallando Festival” took place.

Sumándose a los eventos del Mes Hispano, la Universidad de Delaware el viernes 26 de septiembre presentó el “Guallando Festival”.

Este evento, realizado por dos hermandades de la universidad y el grupo Hispano « HOLA » fue un festival lleno de talento, comida, y orgullo Latino. Guallando, un evento gratis para toda la comunidad, comenzó a las 3 de la tarde con comida y música Latina en el Trabant de la Universidad de Delaware. A las 5 de la tarde empezó la llamada « Guallando Exhibition », esta exhibición fue compuesta de muchísimos estudiantes que demostraron su talento y su orgullo Hispano. Hubo actos de baile de tango, bailarines de salsa, cantantes, y músicos.

El mes Hispano no pude haber sido mejor celebrado; aunque la audiencia no fue tan grande, el show pudo traer un poco de calor latino a uno de los edificios mas ocupados de UD. Por ejemplo, el estudiante Gito tocó sus tamboras al ritmo de Salsa y merengue, poniendo a toda la audiencia a sus pies bailando en medio de la cafetería más grande de la universidad.

Los voluntarios que ayudaron a crear este evento decidieron mandar un mensaje con las camisas que usaron para el show; en el frente decían “Migrant Worker” (TRABAJADOR IMIGRANTE) y en la parte de atrás en letras blancas encima de la camiseta verde decía “We will not be silenced” (NO SEREMOS SILENCIADOS). Con estas simples camisetas, estos voluntarios apoyaron y representaron a lo que somos, un grupo que no será silenciado. Miembros de la comunidad de Delaware también vinieron a este evento a apoyar a los estudiantes de Delaware quienes intentan mantener el nombre Latino en nuestra universidad. En total, el show fue un éxito, con sus bailes, comida y música Latina… el objetivo fue alcanzado… celebrar la Hispanidad y demostrar que no seremos silenciados!

GUALLANDO FESTIVAL “We will not be silenced”

Adding to the Latino Heritage Month, on Friday September 26th, The “Guallando Festival” took place.

This event, brought to the University of Delaware by Chi Upsilon Sigma National Latin Sorority Inc, HOLA & LMGC, was a festival full of talent, food, and Latino Pride. Guallando, an event that was free to the community, began at 3pm with food and Latin music in Trabant, University of Delaware. At 5pm commenced what was known as the “Guallando exhibition”, this exhibition was composed of many students that demonstrated their talent and Hispanic pride. There were acts of Tango dancing, Salsa dancers, singers and artists. The Latin Heritage Month could not have been better celebrated; although the audience was not as big, the show was able to bring some Latin heat to one of the busiest buildings at UD. For example, the student performer “Gito”, played his tamboras to the rhythm of Salsa and Merengue, bringing all of the audience to its feet, dancing in the middle of the biggest cafeteria at the university. In specific, the volunteers that helped create the event decided to send a message with the shirts that they wore to the show; in the front the shirt stated “Migrant Worker”, and in the back in big white letters on top of the green shirt was “WE WILL NOT BE SILENCED”. With these simple shirts, these volunteers supported and represented what we are, a group that will not be silenced. Members of the Delaware community also attended this event to support the students of the University of Delaware who were attempting to maintain the Latino name in our school. In total, the show as a success, with its dances, food and music…the goal was achieved… to celebrate the Latin Heritage Month and to demonstrate that We will not be silenced.
