Throughout our lives, we have heard that Tuesday the 13th is a fateful, fearsome day, filled with bad luck, a day dominated by Mars, the god of war, the same war that former President Trump will face in the courts after a new hearing took place on Tuesday, May 13th.

The defendant, of course, pleaded not guilty to the 37 charges brought against him by a Grand Jury in Miami for mishandling classified documents at Mar-a-Lago, his residence in southern Florida. “Certainly, we plead not guilty,” said Todd Blanche, Trump’s lawyer, during the hearing. Apparently, he is the only one left because everyone else has resigned from defending him.

While Judge Jonathan Goodman presided over the reading of charges against Trump on Tuesday the 13th in Miami, Aileen Cannon will be the one to decide the speed at which the case will go to trial, oversee the selection of jury members, and determine which evidence can be presented to the jury. A trial that could extend beyond the 2024 elections. A common practice, by the way, in the legal history of the former president.

Aileen Cannon was born in Colombia and has a Cuban mother. She was nominated by Donald Trump for a federal judge position and will now preside over the trial for the classified documents found at the former president’s house, who is now once again a candidate for the presidential seat. It is ironic that an immigrant nominated by himself may be the one to convict him on this occasion.

From what we have seen, the accusations presented so far in New York and Florida have not only served to solidify his position as the preferred candidate of Republicans but, as usual for him, who never misses an opportunity, it has allowed him to raise millions of dollars to face the charges in court.

Apart from resorting to the worn-out phrase of a “witch hunt,” he wants us to believe that the mere fact that he considered declassifying secret documents containing crucial information about national defense is a power he had and continues to have, according to his own interpretation.

It is difficult to understand why he took hundreds of classified documents that actually belong to national archives in 15 boxes, storing them in an extravagant manner, to say the least. Documents were also found in the shower when his property was seized by the FBI.

Even if he were to be imprisoned before the elections, he could still be a candidate. And some experts believe he could even govern from jail if elected president. Politically, it is unlikely that this will discourage his supporters, who defend him and see him as a victim of a political scheme. This Tuesday the 13th could have been the beginning of his worst nightmare and perhaps the joy for those of us who hope for justice to be served, regardless of how high the accused may have risen, of course, if found guilty.
