Proclamación del Mes de la Herencia Hispana

Con la inauguración de la exposición de artistas latinoamericanos “Fusión: los clásicos americanos se encuentran con el Arte Latinoamericano” en el Museo Biggs de Dover, se hizo pública la proclamación del Mes de la Herencia Hispana, firmada por el Gobernador Jack Markell.

El evento contó con la asistencia de más de 200 personas en el Delaware en el Museo Biggs de Dover. Fue un éxito rotundo según la opinión de la mayoría de los asistentes, quienes venían de muy variados ángulos de trabajo, desde profesores universitarios, oficiales electos, la secretaria del Departamento de Niños y familias Vivian Raposelli; el señor Cónsul de México en Filadelfia Sr. Enrique Ruiz Sanchez; el Alcalde de la ciudad de Dover Sr. Carleton E. Carey; El Secretario del departamento de seguridad Sr. Lewis Schiliro; el Jefe de la Policía estatal Coronel Robert M. Coupe; el tesorero del Estado Chip Flowers; representantes de la oficina del Senador Tom Carper y de la oficina regional del censo.

La lectura de la Proclamación estuvo a cargo de la Secretaria Raposelli quien compartió, además, unas sentidas palabras con la audiencia, “veo con emoción como estamos pavimentando el camino de nuestros niños, cultivando nuestra herencia cultural.”

Wanda Lopez Directora Ejecutiva de GACHA comento” la proclamación del mes de la herencia hispana 2009 fue u gran éxito y superó nuestras expectativas. Estamos muy impactados no solo por apoyo demostrados por nuestras muchas organizaciones co-patrocinantes sino por los miembros de la comunidad que asistieron. Hubo un genuino sentimiento de orgullo y Alegria en el aire y en nuestros corazones porque este fue nuestro evento comunitario, nuestra exhibición de arte, nuestro tiempo. Millones de gracias por su apoyo- unidos todo es posible!”, y agregó, “El mes de la herencia hispana crea una plataforma nacional para celebrar nuestras contribuciones a este país- la demostración mas importante es la confirmación de Sonia Sotomayor a la Corte Suprema. Este logro histórico ha sentado pautas para nuestra comunidad y habla de la inmensas posibilidades – con perseverancia- que todos tenemos de lograr el sueño americano.”

Es bueno señalar que la Exposición de artistas latinoamericanos, distribuida entre la colección del Museo Biggs, tuvo un gran impacto por el maravillosos contraste que se hizo evidente, tanto desde el aspecto temático como de las técnicas utilizadas.

“La idea, cuenta Magda Korn, me vino a la mente de momento. La forma en que la exhibición permanente del Museo Biggs está organizada me recordó a una sala de estar o recibidor, los muebles al lado de las chimeneas con mesas de centro y otros detalles que armonizan y halagan una habitación haciéndola sentir muy acogedora.  Yo soy amante de las antigüedades y cuando vi todos estos hermosos objetos, la idea me pegó en la cabeza ... tenemos que hacer esta exhibición de manera que podamos mostrar un contraste con el arte latinoamericano y norteamericano pero, que al mismo tiempo, haya un complemento mutuo creando un contraste exquisito con estas dos tendencias artísticas que han crecido paralelas pero distantes una de la otra.  Así fue como surgió el título de la exhibición "Fusion, American Classics meet Latin American Art"   (Fusión: Arte Clásico Norteamericano en unión con el Arte Latino-Americano)”

Las obras fueron seleccionadas después de haber recibido solicitudes de muchos artistas de la región Mid-Atlantica. Los jurados fueron Ryan Grover, Charito Calvachi y Magda Korn. El criterio de selección fue básicamente talento. Se buscaba seleccionar la mejor representación de arte para hacer un montaje de alta calidad en este museo y de esta manera mostrar el mejor talento Latino a nuestra comunidad, añadió Magda.

La Especialista del censo en relaciones comunitarias Priscilla Rodriguez de la Oficina del censo habló sobre la importancia de; Censo 2010. “Una cuenta completa es vital para Delaware, ya que la información del censo le permite al gobierno disponer anualmente de mas de 400 billones de fondos federales para programas y servicios. Nuestros socios para el censo 2010 son fundamentales para su éxito. Este estado y los líderes locales tienen influencia en sus comunidades, lo cual ayuda a crear conciencia sobre el censo.”

Proclamation of The Hispanic Heritage Month

With the opening of the exhibition of Latin American artists "Fusion: the American classics encounters the Latin American Art" at the Biggs Museum in Dover, was made public the proclamation of the Hispanic Heritage Month, signed by Governor Jack Markell.

Over 200 people in Delaware’s Biggs Museum in Dover attended this event. It was a huge success in the opinion of the majority of the attendees, who came from very different angles of work, from university professors, elected officials, Secretary of the State Department of Children, Youth and their Families Vivian Raposelli, the Consul of Mexico in Philadelphia Mr. Enrique Ruiz Sanchez, Mayor of the City of Dover Mr. Carleton E. Carey, Secretary of Homeland Security Mr. Lewis Schiliro, Delaware State Police Chief Col. Robert M. Coupe, State Treasurer Chip Flowers, representatives of the office of Senator Tom Carper and the regional office of the Census.

The reading of the Proclamation was in charge of Secretary Raposelli who also shared heartfelt words with the audience, "I see with emotion how we are paving the way for our children, nurturing our heritage."

Wanda Lopez, Executive Director of GACHA commented, "The proclamation of the Hispanic Heritage Month 2009 was a great success and exceeded our expectations. We are impacted not only by the support shown by our many co-sponsoring organizations, but by the community members who attended. There was a genuine feeling of pride and joy in the air and in our hearts because this was our community event, our art exhibit, and our time. Millions of thanks for your support, together everything is possible!” adding, "The Hispanic Heritage Month creates a national platform that celebrates our contributions to this country and the most important demonstration is Sonia Sotomayor's confirmation to the Supreme Court. This historical achievement has set standards for our community and speaks of the immense possibilities that with perseverance, we can all realize the American dream. "

It is good to note that the exhibition of Latin American artists, distributed among the Biggs Museum's collection, had a great impact by the wonderful contrast that became clear, both as a thematic aspect of the techniques used.

"The idea, accounts Magda Korn, popped into my mind for a moment. The way the Biggs Museum's permanent exhibition is organized, reminded me of a living room or hall, the furniture next to the fireplace with coffee tables and other details that flattered a room harmonizing and making it feel very cozy. I am a lover of antiques and when I saw all these beautiful objects, the idea hit me in the head ... we have to do this show so we can show a contrast with Latin American and North American art, but at the same time, there is a mutual complement creating an exquisite contrast with these two artistic tendencies which have grown parallel but distant from one another. That was how the title of the exhibit "Fusion, American Classics meet Latin American Art" (Fusion: Classic American Art in conjunction with the Latin-American Art)." The works were selected after receiving requests from many artists from the Mid-Atlantic region. Jurors were Ryan Grover, Charito Calvachi and Magda Korn. The selection criterion was basically talent. The aim was to select the best representation of art to make a montage of high quality in this museum and thus show the best Latino talent to our community, said Magda.

Senior Partnership Specialist Priscilla Rodriguez with the Census Bureau explained the importance of the 2010 Census. “A complete count is vital for Delaware, since census data helps the government allocate more than $400 billion of federal funds annually for programs and services. Our 2010 Census partners are critical to its success.  These state and local leaders are influential in their communities, which will help increase awareness about the census.”
