Al pararlos por el cinturón de seguridad les descubren miles de dólares en mercancía robada.

El domingo 13 de junio cerca de las 6:49 de la tarde, al ser detenidos por violar el código de uso de cinturón de seguridad les descubren miles en mercancía robada en la autopista de la costa, cerca de Rehoboth Beah en Delaware, condado de Sussex.

Aquí en Delaware la policía le dirá que hacer cumplir las leyes de uso del cinturón de seguridad salva vidas. También le dirán que al llevar a cabo este tipo de procedimientos, también pasan cosas buenas.

El domingo 13 de junio un oficial de la policía de la tropa 7 esta llevando a cabo un control de cinturones de seguridad en el área de la ruta 1 cuando paso una Van en la que el pasajero no tenia colocado el cinturón. El oficial siguió a la Van y la mando a detenerse justo al norte de Munchy Branch Road.

La conductora del vehículo fue identificada como Maria Cristina Gomez Reyes, de 52, de Corona, New York y el pasajero como

Juan Ricardo Rayo Romero, de 32, de Queens, New York. Ninguno de los ocupantes del vehículo tenia licencia de conducir y la Van no estaba apropiadamente asegurada. Cuando entro en contacto con el operador del vehículo el policía noto una gran cantidad de mercancía en la parte trasera de la Van. Esto bienes, que incluían mayormente artículos de vestir, estaban empacadas en bolsas dobles de plástico (un método de esconder mercancía con el fin de evadir los sensores antirrobo).

A través de la investigación del oficial, se determino que la mercancía fue robada en 12 tiendas diferentes en los outlets de Rehoboth. Un total de 8.969.50 dólares en mercancía robada fueron recuperados y devueltos a los comerciantes en Rehoboth. Y todo por usar el cinturón.

Los dos sospechosos fueron acusados de 14 diferentes cargos. La Sra, Reyes también recibió cargos por conducir sin licencia y no tener prueba del seguro, fue enviada al Correccional de Sussex con una fianza de 29.2000. Romero fue llevado al Correcional de Sussex con una fianza de 28.000 dólares.

On Sunday, June 14th, 2009, at approximately 6:49 p.m. an stop for Seatbelt Violations Yields Thousands in Stolen Merchandise at the Coastal Highway, north of Munchy Branch Road, Rehoboth, Delaware, Sussex County

Monday, June 15, 2009- Resume: Police officers here in Delaware will tell you that enforcing the state’s seatbelt law saves lives. They will also tell you that while conducting this type of enforcement, other good things happen too.

On Sunday, June 13th, a Troop 7 patrol officer was conducting seatbelt enforcement in the area of Route 1 when a van traveled by the officer in which the passenger was not belted. A traffic stop ensued and the van pulled over on Coastal Highway, just north of Munchy Branch Road.

The driver of the vehicle was identified as Maria Cristina Gomez Reyes, 52, of Corona, New YorK and the passenger was identified as Juan Richardo Rayo Romero, 32, of Queens, New York. Neither occupant had a valid driver’s license nor was the van properly insured. During this contact with the operator, the Trooper noticed a large quantity of merchandise in the back of the van. The property, which consisted mainly of clothing items, was stored in double lined plastic bags (a method of concealing merchandise in order to defeat shoplifting sensors).

Through the officer’s investigation, it was determined that the merchandise was stolen from twelve (12) different stores at the Rehoboth area outlets. In all, $8,969.50 in stolen merchandise was recovered and returned to the merchants in Rehoboth… all because of a seatbelt violation.

The two suspects were each charged with the following offenses:

• Nine counts of Shoplifting (misdemeanor)

• One count of Conspiracy (felony)

• Three counts of Shoplifting (felony)

• One count of Possession of Shoplifting Tools (felony)

Ms. Reyes was also charged with Driving without a License and No Proof of Insurance. She was committed to the Sussex Correctional Institute in lieu of $29,200.00 secured bond. Mr. Romero was committed to the Sussex Correctional Institute in lieu of $28,000.00 secured bond.
