El Principio Del Fin

Esta semana muchas escuelas llegaron a su último día de clases y se celebran actos de graduación en todos lados.

Mi hija pasó al tercer año de secundaria y mi hijo decidió tomarse un año de descanso de la universidad, lo que no me hace nada feliz, pero espero que sea por su bien. Mis amigos ven a sus críos graduarse y claro, sienten esa gratificante aunque triste sensación de verlos partir a la universidad. Sé lo que se siente, lo viví y sentí el año pasado cuando mi hijo se graduó. Y con el fin de año escolar llega el verano, la estación mas deseada por la cantidad de actividades familiares que ella conlleva: vacaciones en familia, parrillas al aire libre, y muchas más. Tristemente, y debido a la situación económica que se vive a causa de la economía del país, que nos afecta a todos,  muchas familias suspenderán los campamentos de verano y viajes de vacaciones. No sé por qué todo esto me sorprende tanto. Ya sabía y había visto en los noticieros las proyecciones sobre el declive de viajeros y vacaciones familiares en este año, pero cuando mis amigos cercanos pasan a formar parte de las estadísticas, entonces la realidad me golpea en la cara. Y si lo pensamos bien, tiene sentido. Teníamos un a sensación de seguridad económica falsa con la caída del precio de la gasolina, pero si miramos bien, observaremos cómo los precios suben poco a poco. Los precios promedios son un dólar más del precio que teníamos hace un par de meses y un dólar menos que el precio del año pasado. Escucho sus inquietudes sobre todo esto, y cómo buscan soluciones creativas para pasar unas vacaciones divertidas con la familia en el verano. Una amiga va a intercambiar su casa con un primo que vive en Florida. Su primo de Florida vendrá con su familia a quedarse una semana en su casa, que esta cerca de Washington DC, y esa misma semana ella va a pasarla en Florida en la casa del primo junto a su esposo e hijos. Son ideas realmente creativas y con personas en las que confías. Mi amiga me contó que se le ocurrió la idea cuando vio la película y comedia de amor “Las Vacaciones,” que yo también he visto y disfrutado. En este inicio del verano y final del año escolar, es hora de ponerse creativo para mantener la mente y cuerpo de nuestros hijos ocupados. Mis dos hijos decidieron trabajar y ahorrar dinero para poder disfrutar los fines de semana en la playa o en la piscina. Este verano no hay vacaciones para nosotros, y no nos sentimos mal por eso. Yo me la voy a pasar con mi familia y mis seres queridos. ¿Y tú? ¿Ya hiciste planes para estas vacaciones? Si no lo has hecho, tienes bastante tiempo, el verano no comienza sino hasta el 21 de junio, día del solsticio de verano, el día más largo del año, y, este año, también el Día del Padre. ¡Sé creativo y disfruta el verano!

The Beginning Of The End

This week many schools have celebrated their last day of classes and graduation ceremonies are taking place everywhere.

My daughter will be a junior in high school and my son decided to take a year off from college, I am truly not happy about his choice, but I hope is for the better. Friends of mine are seeing their offspring’s graduate and yes, they have that gratifying yet sadness to see them go away to college. I know how it feels, I felt it and lived it last year with my son’s graduation. And with the end of the school year comes the most anticipated season, summer, due to the many activities that goes on including family vacations, outdoors cookouts and so on. Sadly enough, this year summer camps and vacations will be suspended for many families due to the economic situation they are living due to our countries’ economy, which is affecting us all. I don’t know why this has come as a true shocker for me. I knew and have seen in the news about the projected decline for travel and family vacations this year, but when my closest friends are becoming that part of the statistic, then reality hits me like a ton of bricks. If you think about it, it all makes sense. We had a false economic sense of security when the prices of gas went down, but now take a good look and you will see how gas prices are creeping up little by little. Average prices are one dollar higher than the price we had a couple of months ago and a dollar less than last year’s prices. I now listen to concerns about it and how they now need to figure out and get creative for the summer family fun activities and vacations. One friend of mine is swapping houses with a cousin that lives in Florida. Her Florida cousin and family will stay in her house close to Washington DC area for one week and my friend will go to her Florida cousin’s house with her kids and husband on the same week. That is truly being creative and with someone you can trust. She told me she got the idea when she saw the love-comedy movie “The Holiday,” which I have seen and enjoy. With the beginning of the summer activities and the end of the school year, is time to get creative how we can keep our kids busy bodies and minds on the go. My kids both decided to get a job and save money so we can enjoy weekends at the beach or the pool. No vacation for us this summer, but we are okay with it, I will spend time with family and loved ones. How about you? Have you made plans for your summer? If not, there is still plenty of time, summer does not start till June 21^st when Summer solstice takes place making that day the longest day of the year and this year Father’s Day will fall on that day as well.
