Parque Infantil Dedicado al Gobernador John Carney y la Primera Dama Tracey Quillen Carney
El centro para bebés y niños pequeños La Fiesta II del Centro Comunitario Latinoamericano (LACC por sus siglas en inglés) en Wilmington, fue el anfitrión de una ceremonia de dedicación especial el martes 19 de septiembre. El centro reveló su recién renovado parque infantil en la azotea, dedicado en honor al Gobernador John Carney y Tracey Quillen Carney, en reconocimiento a su compromiso con los niños de Delaware.
Situado en 402 N. Van Buren St., el centro ha proporcionado un entorno amoroso y un crecimiento positivo para los niños desde su apertura en mayo de 2023. Este parque infantil en la azotea, el primero de su tipo, brinda un lugar atractivo para que los niños jueguen, aprendan y crezcan.
La Fiesta II es un edificio de construcción nueva que ofrece 108 plazas de cuidado infantil para bebés y niños pequeños de seis semanas a 2 años. El LACC decidió centrarse en el cuidado de bebés y niños pequeños porque en la comunidad hay muchas menos opciones disponibles para edades de 0 a 2 años que para edades de 3 a 5 años. El parque infantil ubicado en la azotea es una parte importante del edificio, ya que brinda a los niños la oportunidad de explorar, ser activos y desarrollar su fuerza física.
El Gobernador John Carney y Tracey Quillen Carney han sido durante mucho tiempo defensores de los derechos y el bienestar de los niños en Delaware. Esta dedicación sirve como un gesto de agradecimiento y reconocimiento por sus invaluables contribuciones.
María Matos, la Presidenta y Directora Ejecutiva del LACC, dirigió la ceremonia, enfatizando la importancia del apoyo y la unidad de la comunidad en elevar la vida de los niños del estado.
“Estamos orgullosos de dedicar el parque infantil al Gobernador Carney y la Primera Dama Quillen Carney”, afirmó María Matos, Presidenta y Directora Ejecutiva del LACC. “La Fiesta II es una realidad en gran parte gracias al apoyo y la inversión del Gobernador Carney. Además, la Primera Dama Quillen Carney ha sido una fuerza líder en una amplia gama de iniciativas para promover el éxito de los niños, especialmente aquellos que enfrentan desafíos especiales. Queremos reconocer y agradecerles por su compromiso con los niños de Delaware”.
Por su parte el gobernador y su señora esposa agradecieron la deferencia que han tenido con ellos y el gobernador Carney dijo que “nuestra meta fundamental es preparar a la próxima generación dándoles las mejores herramientas en lectura y matemáticas, por ejemplo, para asegurarnos que tengan más oportunidades de éxito en el futuro.”
Playground Dedicated to Governor John Carney and First Lady Tracey Quillen Carney
The Latin American Community Center (LACC) La Fiesta II Infant and Toddler Center in Wilmington hosted a special dedication ceremony on Tuesday, September 19th. The center unveiled its newly renovated rooftop playground, dedicated in honor of Governor John Carney and Tracey Quillen Carney, in recognition of their commitment to Delaware’s children.
Situated at 402 N. Van Buren St., the center has provided a nurturing environment and positive growth for children since it opened in May of 2023. This first of its kind rooftop playground provides an engaging place for children to play, learn, and grow.
La Fiesta II is a new construction building creating 108 childcare slots for infants and toddlers ages six weeks to 2 years. LACC decided to focus on infant and toddler care because there are far fewer options in the community for ages 0-2 than are available for ages 3-5. The rooftop playground is an important part of the building since it gives children the opportunity to explore, be active and develop physical strength.
Governor John Carney and Tracey Quillen Carney have long been champions for children’s rights and well-being in Delaware. This dedication serves as a token of appreciation and acknowledgment of their invaluable contributions.
Maria Matos, the President & CEO of the LACC, led the ceremony, emphasizing the significance of community support and unity in elevating the lives of the state’s children.

In addition, First Lady Quillen Carney has been a leading force in a wide range of initiatives to promote the success of children, particularly those facing special challenges. On their part, the governor and his wife expressed their gratitude for the consideration shown to them, and Governor Carney stated, “Our fundamental goal is to prepare the next generation by providing them with the best tools in reading and mathematics, for instance, to ensure they have more opportunities for success in the future.”
