La Galería Mezzanine de la División de Artes de Delaware se complace en presentar Artist of Life, una exposición individual de obras del artista de Delaware Geraldo “The King of Transit” González. Geraldo González invita al público a adentrarse en un mundo caleidoscópico y utópico donde el bien triunfa sobre el mal y el transporte público reina supremo. Un apasionado entusiasta del tránsito, González centra su trabajo en los sistemas del gran Valle de Delaware, representados en colores llamativos, patrones intrincados y luz radiante. Sus representaciones de autobuses, trenes y estaciones de tránsito no son meramente documentales; son espacios visionarios que transmiten agencia, comunidad y alegría.
En Sensing Justice with Geraldo Gonzalez, el artista entrelaza estas imágenes de tránsito con autorretratos multifacéticos, cada uno infundido con poder expresivo y orgullo cultural. A menudo retratando a sí mismo en papeles imaginarios como un boxeador, un príncipe o un presidente, González posiciona a estos personajes en escenarios planos, inspirados en cómics, enfrentando problemas morales, sociales y culturales. El texto alterado en letreros y vehículos señala la entrada a su mundo alternativo, donde el transporte público se convierte en un símbolo de justicia y posibilidad.
A través de composiciones vibrantes y perspectivas inmersivas, González crea una fantasía tecnicolor basada en luchas y aspiraciones del mundo real. Su trabajo es tanto una celebración del tránsito local como un acto de resistencia contra la injusticia, invitando a los espectadores a compartir su visión de un futuro más equitativo y conectado.
El apodo de González, “El Rey del Tránsito”, se originó durante uno de sus muchos viajes en el sistema de transporte público de Delaware. Mientras conducía por la Ruta 35, el ex operador de autobuses de DART, Bill Price, le dijo a González que realmente era “El Rey del Tránsito”. El título tocó una fibra sensible, capturando perfectamente su profunda conexión y defensa del transporte público. Desde entonces, González ha adoptado el apodo, usándolo como un identificador personal y un reflejo de su misión artística de celebrar y elevar el mundo del transporte local.
Sobre el artista
Geraldo González, también conocido como “El Rey del Tránsito”, es un artista multimedia autodidacta cuyo trabajo celebra la belleza, la comunidad y el potencial transformador del transporte público. Su pasión comenzó en la escuela secundaria cuando una tarea de fotografía lo llevó a capturar y explorar sistemas de tránsito como SEPTA, PATCO, AMTRAK, MTA, NJ Transit y DART First State.
Trabajando a través de lápices de colores, acrílico, óleo, acuarela, fotografía, video y escultura, González traduce sus propias fotografías e imágenes encontradas en composiciones vibrantes que fusionan paisajes de tránsito utópicos con autorretratos expresivos. Influenciado por su herencia puertorriqueña, su trabajo explora la identidad, la resiliencia y la esperanza al tiempo que aborda problemas contemporáneos como la inflación de la gasolina, la ira al volante y las desigualdades sociales.
González ha expuesto ampliamente en Delaware y la región. Las exposiciones seleccionadas incluyen la Exposición de Arte Grupal del Centro Comunitario Latinoamericano en el Museo de Arte de Delaware (2022), Fun A Day en Newark, DE (2022), exposiciones colectivas en The Creative Vision Factory (2023) y múltiples apariciones en las exposiciones de ganadores de premios de la División de las Artes de Delaware en el Museo Biggs de Arte Americano (2019). Su trabajo ha aparecido en publicaciones como Raw Vision y Culture Strike, y comparte su práctica en evolución con el público en las redes sociales en @thekingoftransit.

The Delaware Division of the Arts’ Mezzanine Gallery is pleased to present Artist of Life, a solo exhibition of works by Delaware artist Geraldo “The King of Transit” Gonzalez. The show will be on view from September 5–26, 2025, with a free opening reception on Friday, September 5, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m.
Geraldo Gonzalez invites audiences to step into a kaleidoscopic, utopian world where good triumphs over evil and public transportation reigns supreme. A passionate transit enthusiast, Gonzalez centers his work on the systems of the greater Delaware Valley – rendered in bold color, intricate pattern, and radiant light. His depictions of buses, trains, and transit stations are not merely documentary; they are visionary spaces that convey agency, community, and joy.
In Sensing Justice with Geraldo Gonzalez, the artist weaves this transit imagery together with multifaceted self-portraits – each infused with expressive power and cultural pride. Often portraying himself in imagined roles such as a boxer, a prince, or a president, Gonzalez positions these characters in flat, comic-inspired settings, confronting moral, social, and cultural issues. Altered text on signs and vehicles signals entry into his alternate world, where public transportation becomes a symbol of justice and possibility.
Through vibrant compositions and immersive perspectives, Gonzalez creates a technicolored fantasy grounded in real-world struggles and aspirations. His work is both a celebration of local transit and an act of resistance against injustice—inviting viewers to share in his vision of a more equitable and connected future.
Gonzalez’s nickname, “The King of Transit,” originated during one of his many rides on Delaware’s public transportation system. While driving Route 35, former DART bus operator Bill Price told Gonzalez that he truly was “The King of Transit.” The title struck a chord, perfectly capturing his deep connection to—and advocacy for—public transit. Since then, Gonzalez has embraced the moniker, using it as both a personal identifier and a reflection of his artistic mission to celebrate and elevate the world of local transportation.
About the Artist
Geraldo Gonzalez, also known as “The King of Transit,” is a self-taught multimedia artist whose work celebrates the beauty, community, and transformative potential of public transportation. His passion began in middle school when a photography assignment led him to capture and explore transit systems such as SEPTA, PATCO, AMTRAK, MTA, NJ Transit, and DART First State.
Working across colored pencil, acrylic, oil, watercolor, photography, video, and sculpture, Gonzalez translates his own photographs and found images into vibrant compositions that merge utopian transit landscapes with expressive self-portraits. Influenced by his Puerto Rican heritage, his work explores identity, resilience, and hope while addressing contemporary issues like gas inflation, road rage, and social inequities.
Gonzalez has exhibited widely across Delaware and the region. Selected exhibitions include the Latin American Community Center’s Group Art Exhibition at the Delaware Art Museum (2022), Fun A Day in Newark, DE (2022), group exhibitions at The Creative Vision Factory (2023), and multiple appearances in the Delaware Division of the Arts’ Award Winners exhibitions at the Biggs Museum of American Art (2019). His work has been featured in publications such as Raw Vision and Culture Strike, and he shares his evolving practice with audiences on social media at @thekingoftransit.
